Calling All Bakers!

The Fern Fun Fair is two short weeks away and your fun and fabulous bake sale co-ordinators are calling on you for contributions!    For those of you who have not experienced our Fun Fair Bake Sale , you are in for a tasty treat. Our vintage-inspired celebration of all things sweet features a 20-foot long table laden with your favourite decadent delights. Serving up these offerings are apron clad Moms and Dads waiting to fill a plate OR bring your own reusable container to stock up for Spring entertaining. We are looking for single-servings of nut-free squares, cookies, cupcakes, loaves, cakes and pies. Whole contributions of pies, cakes and loaves are also welcome and will be sold as such.   As we're getting started earlier this year, we are requesting an assortment of healthy, breakfast items (muffins, pastries, home-made granola bars etc.) as well. Request for School Council Funds for 2013/14 School Year

The Fern Parent Council is accepting applications for funding for the 2013/14 school year to support enhanced learning opportunities, programs and community initiatives. In order to be considered for funding, all applicants should download the Funding Request form and submit their proposal before Tuesday, June 11. You may deliver the form in person or reply by email to: wilson.pamela@sympatico.ca. Please place handwritten replies in the envelope labeled “Parent Council – Funding Requests” in the Council mailbox in the Office. Proposals and results from the Parent Engagement Survey will be reviewed at the next Council Meeting on Thursday, June 20. As resources are limited, we encourage teachers and parents requesting funding to attend the meeting to present their proposal and actively participate in the decision making process. Tired of tuna sandwiches? Join the lunch program for 1 day!

On Tuesday, June 4 , there will be a special drop-in lunch to sample Maggie’s delicious Taco Salad, a student favourite, for $4.25 cash. After your child has a taste of Maggie’s menu, we hope that you can’t resist signing up for next year’s program! Fern’s lunch program has served approximately 18,000 lunches this year to rave reviews. Thanks to strong support and participation by students and parents, dedicated volunteers and staff, it will continue in the 2013-2014 school year. Full details will be sent home soon with an order form for those who want to start the first day of school with healthy and yummy lunches – that they don’t have to make themselves. Spring Fling Success!

What an amazing feel-good experience.   Spring Fling 2013 was tons of fun and   raised over $10,500.00 to support programs for our children at Fern next year.   We exceeded expectations, increased ticket sales, cut operating costs and increased earnings over 25% from last year.   And to top it all off, we kicked-up our heels and had a great time! Which of Fern’s programs are important to your family?

Dear Fern School Community member, Many of the activities our children enjoy at Fern Avenue Public School are not included in the TDSB operating budget and are paid for by fundraising initiatives held throughout the school year. Money raised from our Direct Ask Parent Appeal, the Dance-a-Thon, the Spring Fling and the Fun Fair help support additional programs in the Arts, Sciences, and Athletics. School Council Minutes

The minutes for the meeting of the School Council that took place on April 18 are now available for download from the  School Council Minutes  folder on Google Drive. The minutes for the February 28 meeting have been revised and can be found in the subfolder of  Previous Meetings . The School Council will next meet on  Thursday, May 21, 2013 , from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. in the school auditorium.

Spring Fling Live Auction Sneak Peak!

Spring Fling Parent Council Fundraiser Live Auction Item #3 One-of-kind Decoupage Chairs These modern masterpieces have been decorated by Mr. Churrasco’s Grade 6 classes and will be auctioned off this Saturday at our Parent Council Spring Fling. A beautiful addition to your child’s bedroom or front porch. Add some functional art to your home, bring one (or two) home with you and help support our Fern community. Tickets are available for purchase in the main office. Don’t miss the auction, fashion show, wine raffle, fabulous food and dancing! The fun starts at 7:00 pm this Saturday 11 May at the High Park Curling Club – 100 Indian Road.

Maggie's special June menu features all-time favourites!

Maggie has planned a June menu not to be missed! Student favourites such as beef burritos, fish and chips, vegetarian lasagna, chicken noodle soup and pizza are featured in this special menu. Check out the menu on the School Calendar on the right-hand side of Fern’s website pages or click here . If your child(ren) is not already registered, s/he can still enjoy Maggie’s delicious lunches. Simply fill out and submit the form with your payment. A secure deposit box is located outside the Ferncliff Daycare office (Room 103). The deadline for June order forms is Wednesday, May 15 to begin lunch on Monday, June 3. Hard copies of the order form and menu are also available on the bulletin board outside Room 103. Also, keep an eye out for details about signing up for next school year’s lunch program. Education Week: May 6-10 2013 Open House

Education Week 2013 begins next Monday! We are going to have an Open House Drop In style event for the week. Parents are invited to enter via our new front doors only, and have a look at the work that some of our classes have completed recently. The work will be on display on the first floor only, in the main foyer, on the walls, on tables and in the glass cabinets outside the auditorium for viewing. If you are bringing younger children with you, please help us take care of the work samples and maintain their integrity. You are invited to take a look before, during and after school, until 5:30pm, at the latest. Our thanks to the Arts Collective for their help in mounting some of the exhibits. We ask that you remain in the gallery areas only when visiting the school. For security reasons, the classrooms and stairwells are out of bounds, as are the other floors of the building in order to maintain a disruption-free academic setting for our students and a secure setting before
